Rumor has it that the Torencci Family maintain a strong secret police force known only as The Face Stealers, for their incomparable ability to mimic people and pose as convincing impostors. While theoretically in control by the Torencci Family, it is rumored that the real power behind the Face Stealers is a man known simply as Faceless. It has long been rumored that these secret men can mimic anybody through the use of powerful magic; the more outlandish rumors hint that the Face Stealers are really humans infused with magic while still in the womb, giving them a natural ability to take on the appearance of anyone. Even more outlandish are rumors that the real Mel and Marr Torencci have been replaced by lookalikes, and the Face Stealers have taken over Rosett politics.
However, the existence of The Face Stealers is not likely to be discovered and slated to remain as scary stories told to misbehaving children. The other power groups within the city-states of Polmina and Brogg take such a threat seriously, and their agents are constantly paranoid of being replaced by a foe that might not even exist. The Face Stealers are rumored to be infiltrating groups exploring Dragonian ruins, silently stealing and bringing back artifacts to their Torencci masters to sell on the black market.
The rumored existence of Face Stealers have also so unnerved the Rosett populace that many citizens have secretly demanded the Governor to show proof he does not utilize Face Stealers, though this would practically be impossible. This rumor alone may destabilize the political powers in the region, and has also been rumored to attract the attention of the Luce Guild, who according to stories and myths think the use and creation of Face Stealers is abominable and should be destroyed as a practice.
